Saturday night in Jaisalmer was in a word, epic! During the day we finished making Lily pretty for the race before hitting the road for a little practical training. We're pretty sure we weren't supposed to leave the compound with the rickshaws yet, or at least the security guys at the gate tried to stop us but we pulled the old "sorry, we don't understand" trick that worked like a charm. Bram, with the most motorcycle experience got first crack at the open road so we headed into town for a little tour, stopping at a gas station to fill up our 2 canisters and a little chat with the locals before I took over. No crashes (so far) and a better feeling of how to handle Lily got us confident enough to continue on to a restaurant for some lunch before Dani took over for the drive back. I think we're ready for the race to begin!
Later in the day we headed back to our hotel to make ourselves pretty for the launch party. Bram in Dutch orange of course, Dani looking stunning in his nightgown and me going with a traditional Rajasthani outfit and turban. Of course I had no clue how to put it on so had to ask some helpful locals to assist.
The party was a great chance to meet the other teams, share war stories of previous adventures, talk some rubbish and just have a good time. We danced and drank the night away finally hitting our pillows around 4am. Seeing as it's probably gonna be the only chance to let loose on this trip we went all out and feeling the consequences this morning. Still totally worth it! Any party that ends with everyone jumping in the pool, regardless if they had swim gear with or not, is always a good sign.
Just a day way until it begins in earnest. I would say that we can't wait to hit the open road but this is India, with the traffic here the roads anything but open so let's just way we can't wait to hit the road.
